Get BlurMap

iPhone, iOS 17 or newer. You need a Mac or Windows PC once, for about five minutes. After that, BlurMap runs on your phone alone.

1. On your computer: BlurMap Setup

Download for MacDownload for Windows

Sign in and choose a plan to download.

Mac

  1. Open the downloaded BlurMap Setup file. A window opens with the BlurMap Setup icon and your Applications folder.
  2. Drag BlurMap Setup into Applications. Don't open it from the download window; it won't stay installed.
  3. Open BlurMap Setup from Applications. If your Mac says it can't be opened, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.

Windows

  1. Install Apple's Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store first so your PC can see the iPhone.
  2. Open the downloaded BlurMap Setup installer. If Windows says it protected your PC, click More info, then Run anyway.

Then, in BlurMap Setup

  1. Sign in with your BlurMap account (the email and password you use on this site).
  2. Sign in with your Apple ID. A free Apple ID works; you don't need a developer account. Enter the code Apple sends you.
  3. Plug in your iPhone with a cable, unlock it and tap Trust.
  4. Turn on Developer Mode on your iPhone yourself: Settings › Privacy & Security › Developer Mode. Apple doesn't let Setup switch it on for you, but Setup makes the switch show up if it's missing. Your iPhone restarts; unlock it and tap Turn On.
  5. Click Install BlurMap. Setup signs BlurMap with your Apple ID, installs it and gives it the pairing it needs.

2. On your iPhone

  1. Open Settings, General, VPN & Device Management, tap your Apple ID, then Trust.
  2. Install LocalDevVPN from the App Store, open it and turn it on.
  3. Open BlurMap, search a place and tap Teleport here. You can unplug the cable.

No Wi-Fi? iPhone only lets BlurMap connect over Wi-Fi or in Airplane Mode, not cellular data alone. Turn on Airplane Mode (keep LocalDevVPN on), open BlurMap and wait until it connects, then turn Airplane Mode off. Cellular data works for as long as BlurMap stays open. You only do this when BlurMap opens without Wi-Fi.

Every 7 days

Apps signed with a free Apple ID expire after 7 days. BlurMap reminds you a day before. Open BlurMap, go to Settings and tap Renew BlurMap with LocalDevVPN on. BlurMap closes for a moment while it reinstalls. No computer needed.

Your Apple ID password goes only to Apple. It is kept in your computer's keychain for Setup and, once you renew, in your iPhone's Keychain. BlurMap never receives it.
